Taylor Swift has, incredibly, trebled demand for a certain idyllic Cumbrian holiday spot.

The Shake It Off hitmaker, 33, released her song The Lakes back in 2020 as part of her Folklore album, but people are only just realising what it refers too.

With the announcement the country music icon will be bringing her Eras Tour to the UK, Swifties – the keen beans that they are – have been reminiscing some of their favourite tracks.

And when The Lakes came up on TikTok, it dawned on many people that it refers to the UK’s Lake District in the north west of England.

Anyone familiar with the ramblers hotspot will know this on hearing the lyrics, as the megastar sings: ‘Those Windermere peaks look like a perfect place to cry.’

This refers to Windermere Lake in the Lake District, which spans 10.5 miles long and is an iconic sight in the region.

Taylor also sings: ‘Take me to the lakes where all the poets went to die.’

But she’s not exactly wrong, as the region is well-known for its poets, with three particularly famous ones having lived in the beautiful region at the beginning of the 19th century; William Wordsworth, Samuel Taylor Coleridge, and Robert Southey.

Well, now – in a strange, but in a way wholly unsurprising, turn of events – UK holiday provider, Parkdean Resorts, have revealed that demand for ‘Lake District holidays’ has skyrocketed by 311% in the last week, thanks to Taylor. 

A spokesperson from Parkdean Resorts commented: ‘With Taylor Swift fans wanting to visit the Lakes as a result of her song, The Lakes, demand for Lake District holidays is soaring with 12,000 people searching for the ‘Lake District holidays’ in the last month alone.

‘Over the past month, we have not only noticed an increase in search volume, but a spike in Lake District bookings also.

‘After a TikTok went viral in May we noticed bookings started to double. With this in mind, The Lake District is seemingly the go-to UK destination this summer for Swifties and UK Holidaymakers.’

The Lake District and Taylor connection has gone viral, with the hashtag #thelakestaylorswift receiving over 3.4 million views.

Next year, the star will be heading to Edinburgh on June 7 and 8, before hopping over to Liverpool for June 14 and 15, and Cardiff on June 18.

Taylor’s UK Eras Tour is set to end with four Wembley shows on June 21, 22, and August 16 and 17.

Who knows, maybe Taylor will fit in a cheeky trip up to Cumbria while she’s at it…
